Betty M. Heinlein, age 96, of Logan, Ohio, passed away peacefully on August 24, 2025, at The Pickering House in Lancaster, Ohio.
Betty was born on April 17, 1929, in Murray City, Ohio, to Elza Sapp Sr. and Cora Alice Decker Sapp. She graduated from Murray City High School in 1947 and went on to live a life full of love, devotion, and joy. In 1954, she married the love of her life, James H. Heinlein, and together they shared 50 wonderful years. Whether it was going on dates, golfing side by side, or simply enjoying each other’s company, Betty was deeply proud to be Jim’s wife, and their love was a cornerstone of her life.
She also found great joy in golfing with friends as a member of the Hocking Hills Ladies Golf Association, gathering every Monday with her beloved bridge club at the Logan Tavern, and filling her home with the comforting aromas of her famous pies and home-cooked meals. She was a proud member of the Logan Moose Lodge and the Emmanuel United Methodist Church, where she built lasting friendships and strengthened her faith.
A gifted homemaker, Betty enjoyed crocheting and sewing, creating blankets with enough warmth to feel like you were receiving a hug that would last forever. She had a deep love for animals and showed kindness to every creature she met. In her later years, Betty especially enjoyed tailgating at Ohio University football games and spending time at the family land, where she found peace and happiness surrounded by nature and loved ones.
Everyone who knew Betty loved her. Her kindness touched all she met, and she will be cherished for the love she shared and the laughter she inspired.
Surviving are her daughters, Jamie Heinlein-Eads of Logan and Jackie (Mitch) Trucco of Powell; grandchildren, Kristen Eads, James (Jenna) Trucco, and Anna (Justin) Melvin; great-grandchild, Reese Trucco; nephews, Eddie Sapp and David Sapp; and niece, Tracey (Sapp) Abrams.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James H. Heinlein, who passed away in 2004; and brothers, Ralph Sapp, Johnny Sapp, Everett Sapp, and Elza Sapp.
Family and friends were invited to come to the calling hours on Wednesday, August 27, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Heinlein Brown Funeral Home.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 28, at Heinlein-Brown Funeral Home, with Pastor Roy Kelch officiating. Interment followed at Oak Grove Cemetery in Logan, Ohio.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in Betty’s memory to the Hocking County Humane Society, or to Fairhope Hospice 282 Sells Rd. Lancaster, Ohio 43130.
