Ed “The Mountain Man” Chesnet

Ed “The Mountain Man” Chesnet, passed away peacefully after a long illness on April 6, 2025. Ed fought a good fight.

Ed was born on August 25, 1948, in Coatesville, PA, as the youngest of 11 children to Harry Chesnet and Sara Bones-Chesnet. Raised on a farm, he developed an interest in animals, farming, and nature. As an adult, he moved his family to Guilford, Maine, where he worked as a farmer, horse trainer, and jack of all trades. Due to the challenges of farming, he decided to move his family to town and found employment in Guilford, Maine until his retirement. In his later years, due to declining health, he relocated to Laurelville, Ohio to receive better care and be closer to his family.

Ed was an avid hunter and fisherman who loved the outdoors and running. He enjoyed smoking his pipe with Captain Black tobacco. Ed was known for his quick smile, jokes, and infectious laugh that lasted until his final days. When asked how he was, he’d reply, “oh yeah.” Always willing to help others, he often did so at his own expense, regardless of receiving anything in return.

Ed will be remembered fondly and lovingly by his family that he leaves behind; his daughters, Tammy (Scott) Showman of Granville, Ohio, and Lori Chesnet of South Bloomingville, Ohio; 6 grandchildren, Angie, Justine, Melissa, Harley, Alexus and Dakota; and his entertaining and rambunctious great-grandchildren, Jesslee, Zaylee and Sawyer.

There will be a private, daughter-only, service in the summer.

In lieu of flowers, a simple condolence note of a story you remember or something funny he said to you would be great way for us to remember him by.

Arrangements are by the Heinlein-Brown Funeral Home of Logan, Ohio.
