Jerry “Bird” E. Turner, age 79, of The Plains, Ohio, passed away June 5, 2026, at Riverside, Columbus, Ohio.
Jerry was born February 1, 1947, in Albany Ohio to Zenno “Joe” and Emily Turner. Jerry was a member of the AmVets and VFW. He was an all-state basketball player in 1965 and lead his team at Albany High to the State Tournaments. Jerry started his working career as military police in the Army and then went on to work as part of the Ohio University Police Force. He eventually went on to work as a coal miner at Meigs Mine #2. While working for Meigs Mine #2, Jerry served as recording secretary for 24 years and on the safety committee for 22 years.
Surviving are his siblings, Joe “Zern” (Connie) Turner of Wapakoneta, OH, Kenny (Lea) Turner of Powell, TN, and Tony Turner of Albany, OH; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins; and close friend, Dave (Kay) Lawson.
Jerry was preceded in death by his wife, Barb Turner; parents, Joe and Emily Turner; and brother, Danny (Pat) Turner.
Arrangements are by the Warren-Brown Funeral Home of Nelsonville, Ohio. At this time there will be no services following cremation.
