John M. Campbell, age 85, of Murray City, Ohio, passed away June 14, 2026, at his residence.
John was born December 21, 1940, in Murray City, Ohio to Milton Campbell and Lena Wilson Campbell. He graduated from Murray City High School in 1958; formerly worked at Metalbestos in Logan; retired from the Meigs Coal Mine; served in the Ohio National Guard; 50+ year member of the Murray City American Legion; 50+ year member of UMWA; was an avid outdoorsman and hunter; and loved collecting antiques.
Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Judy Campbell; son, John (Sally) Campbell of Murray City; daughters, Sandy Smith of Laurelville and Candy Smathers of Glouster; 8 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sister, Helen (George) Addis of Buchtel; brother-in-law, Dee (Pat) McCall of Murray City; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
John was preceded in death by his parents; infant brother, Robert; and brother, Rolyn Campbell.
Funeral services were held at 1 pm., Thursday June 18, 2026, at the Brown Funeral Home, Murray City, Ohio. Burial was in Downhour-Dawley Cemetery, Carbon Hill, Ohio.
Calling hours were 11 am – 1 pm Thursday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Home Reach Hospice.
