Gala Lee Bender, age 67, of Rockbridge, Ohio, passed away July 4, 2026, at Fairfield Medical Center, Lancaster, Ohio.
Gala was born April 3, 1959, in Columbus, Ohio to Willard Detty and Thelma Miller Detty. She was a graduate of Logan High School; and loved the Lord, singing, attending church, diamond-painting, taking care of people; and ran a half-way house.
Surviving is her son, Jason (Melissa) Cottrill; sisters, Karen Hartley and Lynn Smith; boyfriend, Anthony Mundy; stepchildren, Heath Mundy, Colby Mundy, and Chantelle Mundy; grandchildren, Meadow Cottrill, Keston Cottrill (Elizabeth Long), and Cole Cottrill (Velma Whipps); great-grandchildren, Caroline Cottrill, Arden Cottrill, and Byron Cottrill; best friend, Tammy Smith; and nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Gala was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Cameron Detty; niece, Korrina Berry; and brother-in-law, James “Butch” Smith.
Funeral services were held at 1 P.M., Friday July 10, 2026, at the Heinlein-Brown Funeral Home, Logan, Ohio with Pastor Phil Stevens officiating. Burial was in Morgan Chapel Cemetery, Rockbridge, Ohio.
Calling hours were 11 am – 1 pm Friday at the funeral home.
